The bread has been a massive success in our household. Not only does it make a killer loaf of yummy in your tummy artisan bread, it also makes a pretty mean pizza dough (and it saves money at the same time). We started making pizza's on the BBQ last year and my partner has really got the cooking down to a science. The only road block for me in the past was the messy and time consuming dough creation (read my partner spread flour all over and the clean up was time consuming). No longer a problem for us, it took just minutes to make the dough for our most recent pizzas and they were by far the best pizzas we've made to date.
The true test - a visit from my amazing mom. She not only enjoyed the bread, but (and this makes my heart swell with pride), said that the grilled cheese sandwhiches I made with it were the BEST she'd ever had. Now I don't know about you, but I grew up with grilled cheese and have always felt that my mom's were the best. To think that she thinks mine are the best, well it makes me smile inside.
We also tried French Toast with a loaf, but I found it was a bit too dense...most likely because I did not wait for it to rise (read I get a little eager for bread). After the initial 2 weeks of break making, I'm toning it down a bit. Truthfully I know that bread isn't that great for me and before I'd started making it I'd really cut back. BUT when you've got an amazing loaf of freshly made bread sitting on the counter it's reeeeeaaaallly hard not to dig in. Now that we've got the initial gorging done, I'm hoping we'll be ok. At a few cents a loaf I figure we've already saved a few bucks and the savings will just keep on growing.
In a bid to lower our household expenses (inspired by Mr. Money Mustashe) we are starting to make meal plans for the week. We've done 3 weeks of meal planning thus far and have really lowered our grocery bills by thinking first. First week we really stuck to it, second week got a bit lost and 3rd week we're sticking to the plan, just not necessarily on the night it was intended for.
