It's raining today, but that's alright. The dogs and I will still have a great walk and I've got plans for the rest of the day.
Yesterday I decided to finally do something with a cute fleece blanket I found awhile back. It's navy with colourful stars across it and I've been waiting for the right project. After putting together my craft show calendar for the next two months, I realized that I really need to build up my stock for Christmas and decided that this fabric would work well for some baby 'lil hoot' owls.
Starting first thing in the morning I began with the cutting out of owl bodies and wings. Sometimes cutting is my least favourite part of the process, but the scissor gods were on my side yesterday and it went very smoothly. I've begun looking into electric scissors to help me out when I'm having a bad hand day. Not sure how I feel about them but figure I need a new blade for my rotary cutter (which is WAY overdue) and it'll be worth checking out the options when I'm at the craft store next.
I walked the dogs early in the day and mailed some applications for more craft shows and did a few dishes, but otherwise I spent the entire day sewing up baby hoots. Mark got home at 5pm, which worked out perfectly as I sewed my last little friend. When we curled up on the couch to watch a movie before bed I began the task of stuffing. I'm always surprised at how much longer stuffing takes than I think it will. I think it has to do with getting stuffing in the pointy bits and making sure the feeling is consistent across the doll. Anyway, I got 5 done and am hoping to continue working on them today. Once they're all stuffed, I'll sew up their openings and then begin the task of hand sewing each face and then finishing with hand painted accents. I'll post a picture when they're all done.
Now, you would think that after a day of sewing I would be more than ready when bed time came around...but you would be wrong. As I started turning off lights and getting ready for bed I had an idea! Lightbulb moment! Bedtime Brainstorm!
I've been working on some animal hats, as you may know, and have also been asked to work on animal mittens. I had started some rough prototypes, but it all came together as I was about to crawl into bed last night. I got back up and began cutting and pinning and sewing again.
So now a question for you....
What's better than a pair of Monkey Mittens? (you can get them to wave with your thumb!)
Well, some might say a pair of dinosaur mittens would be cooler...
Well, what if a person who loved both dinosaurs and monkeys came up with a pair of REVERSIBLE MITTENS?
Yes, that's what I said! Reversible mittens, my newest brainstorm, which hit me en route to bed, smack dab in the face. Reversible animal mittens = so cool for little ones, or big ones with little hearts.
You can wear monkeys or dinos or one of each!!!
Glad I stayed up to make them, but once I was done I didn't want to go to bed...wanted to finish their faces, but that will have to wait...maybe today.
Have a great day!
